Dr. Wael Saasouh embodies the spirit of resilience, purpose, and innovation. A brilliant physician-scientist, Dr. Saasouh was recruited from Beirut on an O1 Visa granted only to individuals who demonstrate extraordinary ability. Arriving in the U.S. with a vision to advance medicine, he quickly recognized the steep financial and professional challenges physicians face in training.

During his anesthesiology residency, Dr. Saasouh became a borrower with Doc2Doc Lending. As a resident, he saw firsthand how access to fair, transparent funding can be transformative in alleviating financial stress and creating stability that allows physicians to focus on patient care and academic excellence.

Over the years, Dr. Saasouh has achieved remarkable milestones. He has climbed the ranks of academic medicine to become Head of Research at Detroit Medical Center, where he also founded the Division of Research in the Department of Anesthesiology. He holds clinical faculty appointments at Michigan State University and Wayne State University, mentors the next generation of physician-researchers, and contributes extensively to scientific literature with dozens of peer-reviewed publications.

In 2023, he became the inaugural Chair of Doc2Doc’s Scientific Research Committee and joined the company’s Strategic Advisory Board. In these roles, Dr. Saasouh helps shape research priorities and advances the organization’s mission of delivering doctor-focused financial tools rooted in trust, transparency, and community.

Today, Dr. Saasouh has come full circle: once a borrower who needed support, he is now one of the 200 physician investors participating in Doc2Doc’s StartEngine funding round. His journey reflects what is possible when a company stands by clinicians at every stage—from training to leadership—and inspires them to become partners in building a better financial future for healthcare professionals everywhere.

Dr. Saasouh’s story is just one example of the community we’re building, where doctors are not just borrowers, but leaders, advisors, and owners.
